Chris Turner

Oceans Ate Alaska

For me, drumming is a universal language. It allows me full creative freedom, as well as giving me endless mental and physical challenges. Helping others learn the art of drumming always inspires me, and this is why teaching is truly one of my biggest passions.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Technique Master Classes

These sessions are very up close and personal. During the lesson Chris will demonstrate, fully breakdown and explain all the intricacies involved in playing the techniques he uses - for both hands and feet!

The techniques shown can be upon request of the student, or Chris can provide techniques that he feels will be most beneficial for the player, always leaving you with plenty to take away and work on.

Chris has a very 'down to earth', clear and simple way of explaining things, and can easily communicate even the most complex things across to you. But don't be afraid to book up based on skill level or confidence - Chris is more than happy working with beginners or competent players of all ages.

It's common knowledge that freedom via the kit is hugely important, and good technique is vital to ensure your playing isn't held back or restricted. Chris was brought up to very strict practice methods from a young age, and his whole playing style is very unique. In these sessions you can learn exactly how he conserves energy whilst playing, helping achieve speed but without loosing any power.

The session will generally take place either on a practice pad or a kick drum, so nothing will go a miss. This means that Chris can easily analyze and help shape up your technique, making sure you reach your full potential.

Remember, the sessions are very friendly, you can socialize with Chris, ask him questions at any point, and you definitely won't leave unsure of anything.

“The day I was introduced to drumming was the day drumming became my life. I was taken along to see my first show when I was only four years old and it just so happens that my dad was behind the kit that night. I was jaw dropped to say the least! From that moment I knew all I wanted to do was play; all these years later nothing has changed!"

Chris was fortunate enough to grow up around some amazing players who taught him strict practice methods and helped him to study and understand music from the young age of just six years old. This built such a solid foundation of skill and knowledge all round, enabling him freedom and language via the kit.

Currently, Turner is playing professionally at the young age of only 21, recording and performing with the band 'Oceans Ate Alaska'. The bands career initially took off after releasing their first single ‘Clocks’, which quickly received millions of plays on YouTube and a significant amount of media attention. The band is now signed to Fearless Records and has the privilege of spending most of their time touring the world!

Chris has been featured in many credible press outlets ranging from Alternative Press, Rhythm, Revolver, Outburn, Substream, Rock Sound, Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, Total Guitar, Big Cheese, Ourzone, and Discovered Mag, and has even received UK radio support from BBC Radio 1, Team Rock, and Kerrang! Radio.

As a player, Chris is known worldwide as 'the robot' due to his impeccable accuracy whilst performing fast and technical parts. Turner also boasts hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube for his drum play through videos, one of which was featured as an artist spotlight video for the Vic Firth channel.

Chris is currently supported by and proudly endorses DW Drums, Vic Firth sticks, Remo drum heads and Sabian cymbals.
