The Metal Drummers Handbook

Sam Applebaum lives and breathes metal drumming and he wants to pass on what he has learned along the way to you! Whether it's working on double bass, trying to progress with patterns and weird rhythms or getting your hand/finger speed up, this is the workshop for you! If you're interested in learning about general band info and business help to get your project going this class will touch on that as well! Learn how to become a more experienced player and a better musician. Hope to see you this summer!

My name is Sam Applebaum. I was born 2/18/1986 in Chicago, IL and still reside there currently.  I started playing drums at the age of 12, after seeing my older cousin Jacob playing. I got my first kit at the age of 13 after my bar mitzvah.  I took private lessons for a while from a few different teachers in my area.  From there I got into heavier music such as cannibal corpse, death and black dahlia murder.  Around the age of 17 I started to take drumming very seriously.  I was practicing daily and working mainly on metal drumming.

Through the next several years a lot of time, work and brainstorming went into creating and developing of Veil of Maya.  Through Sumerian Records recognition, I and Veil were fortunate enough tour many beautiful places all over the world.  Companies such as Meinl, Tama and Vic firth have all supported me though my career as a drummer with top of the line gear.  I feel the best way to learn is to listen and ask questions. In my time as the drummer for Veil of Maya I have been lucky to meet and interact with some terrific drummers and some awesome students.
